Internationalisation & Academic Partnerships

HSE University aims to attract the best students and experts from different countries, as well as expand the geography of its international partners. For instance, the University has more than 400 agreements on international collaboration with universities in 69 countries, while also teaching students from more than 70 countries and continuing to diversify the geography of its academic partnerships and recruitment.


Attracting talented students:

  • Expanding the geography of the HSE Global Scholarship Competition and the International Olympiad in Economics for School Students, along with the launch of new formats for Olympiad competitions: by 2030: representatives of at least 25 countries taking part in the HSE Global Scholarship Competition; over 50% of competition fields will be transformed in an online format.
  • Launching new digital projects online with HSE University’s profile and descriptions of all English-taught programmes available on global academic portals: more than 10 million views by 2030.
  • Creating new online Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees: up to 30 specialisations by 2024.
  • Creating online and offline offices and centres for recruiting talented students.
  • Organising student interdisciplinary schools hosted by international partners: at least 20 in 2030.
  • Creating a new concept for conferences and forums under blended formats.

Developing academic partnerships:

  • Creating international research centres in partnership with international universities and organisations.
  • Implementing internships and academic exchange programmes with international universities.
  • Developing and implementing models for delivering sets of online courses with relevant certificates of completion issued by HSE University (i.e., 'microdegrees').
  • Internships and advanced training for lecturers, researchers and administrative staff.
  • Regular online conferences, summer schools and free intensive courses.
  • Methodologic and technical support for faculty from partner universities, participating in provision of joint programmes, with the application of virtual services, e.g., access to relevant analytical materials and independent measurement of key learning outcomes.
  • Supporting research activities of specialists from other universities, e.g., publishing research papers in HSE University’s scientific journals and conducting regular journal conferences, seminars and academic writing courses.

Broadening international academic partnerships:

  • Achieving leading positions on educational markets in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Middle East and Latin America.
  • Broadening HSE University’s presence on these markets through establishing resource centres, branch offices, and creating multilateral educational projects.
  • Creating transparent methods and instruments for independent and objective assessment of the academic and scientific results of various universities.
  • Participating in academic associations in emerging countries, cooperating with international governmental and non-governmental associations.
  • Cooperating with academic and scientific organisations, public authorities and the corporate sector abroad.
  • Cooperating in the creation and promotion of digital technologies in education.
  • Promoting the transfer of technologies among Russian and international investment and technological clusters, scientific organisations and business.
  • Enhancing HSE University’s participation in international network universities, e.g., universities of BRICS, SCO, CIS, Russian-African Network University, Eurasian Network University, etc.
  • Conducting the Annual Educational Forum of the Greater Eurasian Partnership, and implementing new formats for academic mobility.
  • Promoting HSE University’s educational products (e.g., eLearning offerings), R&D results, and the University’s expert and analytical expertise.
