HSE University-St Petersburg International Partners' Week continued with the Academic Day. Experts from different countries and researchers from HSE University held more than ten strategic sessions and discussed the ethics of AI use, the development of diplomacy in the age of multipolarity and new formats of university cooperation.

It is the third time that HSE University-St Petersburg has become a centre for a global academic dialogue. Dozens of lectures and workshops by researchers from China, Brazil, Mexico, India, Japan, Serbia, Tunisia and other countries: the programme of the HSE St Petersburg International Partners' Week started with the Student Day. The venue for the global academic dialogue was the Rope Shop Educational Space.

Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, along with students from the AI360: Artificial Intelligence Engineering track of the Applied Mathematics and Information Science bachelor’s programme, took part in ICLR, one of the world’s most prestigious international conferences on machine learning and representation learning. This year’s event was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Interdisciplinary research is a defining feature of modern science, and this trend is especially pronounced in the field of quantum technologies. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology form the core fields of research at the Centre for Quantum Metamaterials of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). Prof. Alexei Vagov, director of the centre, discusses its key activities, which focus on exploring the prospects of creating materials with predefined properties through manipulating their structure at the quantum level.

At the international conference on computational linguistics (EACL), the team from the Linguistic Convergence Laboratory at HSE University-St Petersburg presented a unique dataset for neurorehabilitation of patients with the speech disorder—aphasia.

In 2026, HSE University–St Petersburg is launching a new English-taught Master’s in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The International Laboratory of Quantum Optoelectronics at HSE University–St Petersburg develops semiconductor microlasers. The Rope Shop Educational Space of HSE University–St Petersburg hosted a conference on the present and future of Russian–Chinese relations. Together with Luo Zhanhui, Consul General of China in St Petersburg, leading experts in Asian and African Studies discussed vectors for the long-term development of the countries, the synergy of joint projects, and future educational partnerships.

HSE University–St Petersburg held the Third International Academic Conference ‘Army, Elites, and Society in the Middle East and North Africa.’ The event brought together researchers from Russia, Oman, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and several other countries.
